We communicate regularly to all parents/carers through school newsletters and messages. For specific activities and events involving groups or classes we issue separate letters/messages. In common with other Argyll and Bute schools we also use a communication system called Groupcall / Messenger 5 to communicate with parents/carers by email, app notification or text.
We have an established Facebook page on which we share information about school events and learning activities and celebrate school achievements.
Our school website also provides up-to-date information about the school.
We hold Parent / Teacher Appointment sessions to give parents/carers the opportunity to meet their child’s teacher and to see their child’s work.
We use the Seesaw website and app to share children’s learning with all parents on a regular basis to keep them up to date on their child’s progress.
Child Protection
Children and Young People have a right to be safe and protected from harm. We all have a responsibility to make sure that all our children live safely. Families, neighbours, professionals and members of communities play a vital role in protecting children.
The Child Protection Coordinator for Innellan Primary School is the Head Teacher. In the absence of the Head Teacher the Coordinator is the Principal Teacher.

School Attendance
Parents/carers are responsible for ensuring that their children attend school regularly and arrive on time. They are also responsible for ensuring the safety of their children on their journeys to and from school.
Regular and punctual attendance is linked closely to achievement and school staff wish to work with parents/carers to ensure that children can reach their full potential. The school is required by law to maintain an accurate record of the attendance and absence of each pupil and parents/carers are requested to assist in this process by keeping the school informed if their child is to be absent for any reason.
It is important to note that if a child does not arrive at school and there is no reasonable explanation provided for his/her absence then members of staff will be required to ascertain the whereabouts and safety of the individual child. In order to avoid causing unnecessary concern for staff and parents/carers, the importance of good communication between home and school cannot be over-emphasised.
Parents/carers are asked to assist school staff in the manner detailed below.
Unplanned Absence
Parents are required to contact the school every day for any absence other than holiday. Council policy is that we will contact a parent if a child is absent and no communication has been forthcoming from the parent. We may do this by phone or text message.
In the case of an unplanned absence, e.g. illness, it is essential that parents contact the school to let us know that your child will not be in school and the reason for his/her absence. Please telephone the school by 9am on the morning of the first day of the pupil’s absence and subsequent mornings until your child returns to school.
This can be done by phone (please leave a voicemail if there is no answer), email, by text message or ParentsPortal.
Planned Absence
Parents/carers are encouraged not to arrange family holidays during term time but it is realised that, in exceptional circumstances, this is unavoidable. In such cases, parents/carers are asked to seek permission from the Head Teacher and provide information of the dates when the child is to be absent from the school in good time.
Except in cases of emergency, planned appointments for children to attend the dentist or doctor should be made outwith the school day.

Parents/carers are asked to ensure that telephone contact numbers – home, work and emergency contact(s) are kept up-to-date and are numbers at which a response can be obtained in all normal circumstances.
ParentsPortal
Parentsportal.scot is a digital service to help replace the traditional school bag run by providing direct communication to parents and carers through a growing selection of online services (e.g. completion of annual data check, reporting absence etc).
From late January 2026, we’re launching Parentsportal.scot in Argyll and Bute schools. We know that letters in bags are not always reliable and don’t always make it home in one piece! To make things easier, we’ll be providing direct communication to parents and carers through online services via the Parentsportal.scot website or app.
Parentsportal.scot allows you to access the information you need and update your details at a time that suits you. Parentsportal.scot will not replace the Eduspot app (previously called Xpressions). The Eduspot app is available to all parents and is used instead of receiving school communications via email. If you are interested in the Eduspot app, please contact your school office in the first instance.
Who Can Access Parentsportal.scot?
Parentsportal is available for parent/carers with children in Primary 1 – S6 and are the registered school contact for their child.
How Do I Access Parentsportal.scot?
Parent/carers need to initially signup for mygovscot.myaccount.
Parentsportal needs a sign-on via the mygovscot.myaccount service. If you don’t have an existing myaccount account, you will need to sign up now to use Parentsportal.
If you have signed up for council tax online billing, you will already have a myaccount account – you will use the same account to access Parentsportal.
Mygovscot.myaccount is the simple and secure sign-in service for accessing online public services in Scotland. It provides people living in Scotland with the ability to set up an online account and use it to access a growing range of online public services, Scotland-wide, including Argyll and Bute Council.
Parentsportal lets you update your own details as well as your child’s details at any time. When you sign up to Parentsportal you will be able to link to your child and gain access to the services.
To link to your child the data you provide during the sign-up process must match the data that the school holds.
If your child is starting primary 1 – your school will let you know how and when you can set up myaccount.
School Meals
We are committed to providing healthy, nutritious, good value meal options to pupils in our primary school. The lunch is a two course menu with a choice of main meal, and will be either a starter and a main course, or a main course and a dessert. Water, and a selection of bread and salad are also provided every day. The menu runs on a three week cycle, so that there is plenty of choice for pupils.

All pupils in Primary 1-5 are entitled to a free school meal. Parents do not have to register for this; all pupils will receive this meal automatically. Unless receiving free school meals, the cost for a two course meal for P6-7 children is £2.30 a day. Water and milk is available free of charge with lunch.

Allergens and Special Dietary Requirements
If your child has a food allergy, please contact the school office.
Where possible, other non-medical special diets may be accommodated and you should contact the school office in the first instance.
Free Bus Travel Scheme
If you are 5–21 years old and live in Scotland then you are eligible for free bus travel from 31 January 2022, no matter your nationality.
Even if you already have a National Entitlement Card or Young Scot National Entitlement Card, you must apply for a new or replacement card to travel by bus for free.
Parents or guardians must provide approval for children aged between 5-15 to access the scheme by applying on their behalf. Young people aged 16-21 should apply themselves. Children under 5 years old already travel for free on commercial bus services and do not need a card.
Young people will be able to access free bus travel on registered bus services across Scotland including a very limited number of local cross-border services from the south of Scotland into northern England.
Young people aged between 5 and 21 years old will need to have a National Entitlement Card or a Young Scot National Entitlement Card to access the free travel.
